Parking

At Keppel St, parking for bicycles can be found in the Gower St moat. Access is via the Malet St goods entrance (you need to have your School ID card authorised for this entrance – just take it along to Reception to get this done). Please lock your bike up securely using the bike racks provided, and don’t leave your bike in the entrance arch, in the walkway, or anywhere near the insectiaries. Also, please do not park your bike next to the racks obstructing the walkway.

Please note that the bike racks in the moat are for short-term use only – they are not meant for long-term storage or dumping of bikes. If you are not using your bike regularly, or are away from the School for any length of time, please remove your bike from the moat so that your fellow cyclists have somewhere to park. The BUG, in liaison with Estates, carries out regular checks of the moat facilities to identify, tag and remove unused or abandoned bikes. You have been warned!

Alternative parking near the Keppel St building is available in the grounds of Senate House, Birkbeck and SOAS. There is also on-street parking in Keppel St and Malet St, but be aware – thieves have been known do operate in these areas. Make sure you lock your bike up securely.

At Bedford Square parking is limited to bicycle racks on the street. Again, make sure you lock your bike up securely.

There is a large shed with bike stands behind the Tavistock Building. Bring your bike through the main gates to access it.

Please note from Monday 10 of September 2018, bike storage facilities will no longer be available in the shed. Alternative facilities will be available nearby requiring fob access. Please contact Tavistock Place Reception for more information.

Showers

There are three recently refurbished unisex showers located next to the Malet St goods entrance at Keppel St. In Tavistock Place several individual shower rooms are located in the lower ground floor

Student Lockers

Taught course students can get a key from Reception for one of the student lockers located on the Lower Ground Floor of the Keppel St building. A refundable £10 deposit is required.

Tool Library

There is a set of bike repair tools and a bike pump near the bike racks (turn right as you get out into the moat). Moreover, the BUG operates a Tool Library, which can be found at the Enquiries Desk in the Library. A track pump, tyre levers, spanners, etc can be issued to you on your Library card just like a book, which you can then use for emergency repairs on the School premises. Items are issued for 3 hours and are for use on the premises only. The Tool Library is maintained by generous donations of equipment from LSHTM cyclists. If you’d like to donate an item to the Tool Library please contact David or another member of the BUG Committee.

Tax-free bike Scheme

The School is currently a member of Cycle Scheme, run with a large number of bike shops, which provide assistance for members of the School looking to buy a bike to get to and from work. This can amount to a big saving when buying a new bike. For more information, see the Cycle Scheme’s website, and the School’s information or contact us or your favourite bike shop.
